The SfL department works in tandem with staff across the school to ensure that the needs of our pupils are being met. We also work in partnership with a wide range of visiting colleagues to ensure that the needs of our pupils are effectively supported.
We work closely with Ms Campbell, the school's Senior Educational Psychologist to ensure that barriers to learning are successfully overcome. Ms Campbell also offers excellent advice on appropriate resources and approaches to help meet our learners' needs in our Literacy Groups and the Scotland Reads reading programme. Mrs Devlin, our visiting Teacher for the Deaf, helps us successfully support and set targets for our hearing impaired pupils.
We work in partnership with Mr Wylie from the Hamilton Behaviour Base to provide strategies to help our targeted pupils behave well in class and around the school. The school's Active Breaks staff, Gerry Kelly and Pamela Stark, work with us to run S1 nurture groups.
We also have a close working relationship with staff at Universal Connections. Tony McCloskey, with our support, delivers "On Yer Bike" where S1 groups have the opportunity to repair bikes and learn about effective team work. We work closely with Barry McPhilomy at Universal Connections on a Literacy and Attendance group. This group supports pupils who have very high absence levels develop their literacy and ICT skills.
We support the work of our Home School Partnership Worker, Evelyn McGonagle and Cathie Mackie, our Attendance Officer, in the excellent Transition programme they offer to P7 pupils and their parents. This programme runs in April and May each year and helps ease the transition to secondary school.
