Larkhall Academy PE department aim to recognise the sporting achievements of our talented, hard working young people. Below you will see some of their recent success stories.

Athletics Success

 

Alexander Young - S5

Congratulations to Alexander Young, who represented Scotland at the Schools International Athletics Board (SIAB) Event in July. He competed against pupils from England, Wales and Ireland in the 100m and 200m. Alexander was also part of the Relay team. Alexander has worked extremely hard over the past 4 years to qualify for this event. It is great to see his hard work and dedication to training has paid off. Well done!

 

 

David Lees

Well done to David Lees, 6G who a silver medal in the Javelin at the Scottish Schools’ Athletics Championships 2017. He threw a personal best of 50.11 metres. David also placed fifth in the Discus. David also won gold at long jump, javelin and a bronze for shot putt at the recent Lanarkshire AAA Track and Field Championships

 

 

 

Ross Mitchell - S4

Well done to Ross Mitchell. He ran extremely well over the two days at the Scottish Schools’ Athletics Championships 2017. Despite a back injury, Ross narrowly missed out on the semi finals. It is a huge achievement for Ross to make it this far as he has been unfortunate with injuries over the past year. Ross recently won the 100m gold and 200m silver at the Lanarkshire AAA Track and Field Championships achieving a personal best time in both events.

 

Emma Young - S3

Emma Young performed well at the recent Scottish Schools Athletics Championships 2017. This was Emma's first year competing at Scottish Schools and she performed two very good runs over the two days.

 

 

 

 

 

 Codie McHolm - S1

Congratulations to Codie who recently won the 800m gold medal at the Lanarkshire AAA Track and Field Championships. Very well done!

 

 

 

 

Dean Patterson - S1

Congratulations to Dean who won the 200m bronze medal and finished 4th in the 100m at the recent Lanarkshire AAA Track and Field Championships. Well done!

 

 

 

Thomas Watson - S4

Congratulations to Thomas who won the 800m silver medal at the recent Lanarkshire AAA Track and Field Championships achieving his personal best time during this event. Thomas also finished a respectable 18th from 151 runners in the recent Secondary Schools' Road Race. Well done!

 

Sol Stewart - S4

Congratulations to Sol who recently won the 200m silver medal at the recent Scottish National Championships despite not being able to train for 12 weeks due to injury. Sol's next goal is to achieve the Youths' European Qualifying Standard off 22.55 seconds for the 200m. Well done!

Trampolining Success

Lorna Pitkethley - S2

Congratulations to Lorna Pitkethley, who won a silver medal at a recent Scottish Trampolining Event. This means Lorna has qualified for the next event. It is good to see her hard work paying off!

Tae Kwon Do Success

Jack McDonald - S2

Congratulations to Jack McDonald. Jack recently won a gold and two bronze medals for sparring at the Tae Kwon Do Scottish Open at Ravenscraig.

Jack competed at middleweight against opposition from Poland, Nothern Ireland, England and Wales.

Jack regularly fights for Scotland and has ambitions of being an Olympic competitor.

Water Polo Success

Larkhall Academy Water Polo Team

Congratulations to the Larkhall Academy team who won the 2017 Scottish Schools Water Polo Championships in Livingston. Larkhall emerged undefeated, beating schools from all over the country to win the title. Rory Robertson was voted the Player of the Tournament by the organising committee.

Larkhall  Team:- Rory Robertson, Ben Fyfe, Fraser Canning, Aron Stevenson, Lewis Cuthbertson, Ruaridh Henderson, Ryan Campbell and Harry McHolm.

 

 

 

 

Figure Skating Success

Chloe Little - S1

Congratulations to S1 pupil, Chloe Little. Chloe is a very talented young figure skater who trains four times a week! Already this year, Chloe has finished 1st, 2nd and 3rd for Level 1 Ladies 11-12 years Figure Skating at Bradford and Dundee Ice rink arenas and 3rd place for the Level 2 award at Murrayfield Ice Rink. Chloe has aspirations of competing at the British finals.
