Physical Education - Celebrating Success

Larkhall Academy PE department aim to recognise the sporting achievements of our talented, hard working young people. Below you will see some of their recent success stories.

Trampolining Success

Lorna Pitkethley - S3

Congratulations to Lorna Pitkethley, who won a silver medal for the double mini trampoline at the NDP Scottish National Qualifier in Perth despite suffering from an injured foot.

Equestrian Vaulting Success

Mhairi Hume - S5

A massive Congratulations to S5 pupil, Mhairi Hume. Mhairi recently qualified and was only one of three who competed for Great Britain at the European Equestrian Vaulting Championships in Hungary.

 Mhairi trains twice a week in Perth and hopes to compete at the World Championships and World Equestrian Games after her success representing GB at the recent European Championships.

Yachting Success

Chloe Aitken - S6

Congratulations to S6 Pupil Chloe Aitken. Chloe has recently achieved the following awards:

 

Royal Yachting Association

•Safe Fun                    

•Safeguarding Awareness     

•Essential Navigation

•Competent Crew

•First Aid

 

Chloe has also sailed 552 nautical miles tidal around the west coast of Scotland and is a member of the Ocean Youth Trust Scotland and is working her Day Skipper status.

 Football Success

 

Congratulations to Darcy Miller (S4), Ellie Currie and Hannah Braid (both S3). All three girls played in the Hamilton Accies U15 team that recently won the Scottish South West League Cup at Toryglen, winning 7-0 against Ayr United in the final.

Team captain Darcy Miller scored and also had three assists with goal keeper Ellie Currie keeping another clean sheet. Hannah Braid also had another strong performance.

 

The girls generally train twice weekly at Hamilton Palace sports grounds as well as playing Saturday and midweek matches.

 

Well Done!

 

 

Dance Success - Aimee Curivan

Congratulations to S2 dancer Aimee Curivan who won Best Individual Performance for S1-S3 at the recent Active Schools Dance competition.

Well done!

 

Water Polo Success - Ben Fyfe

Congratulations to S5 pupil Ben Fyfe. Ben plays for Larkhall, Caledonia and Scotland and recently won the U18 Inter Regional Championship in Sheffield.

Ben trains four times a week in Larkhall, Stirling, Edinburgh and Dunfermline. His aspirations are to train hard and get selected for more tournaments with the Scotland team.

 S2 Road Race Success

Congratulations to seven of our young people competing in the recent Scottish School Road Race.

This is an elite event and one of the toughest competitions our pupils will compete in.

Our S2 girls placed 6th in the team event from a possible 17 in the competition.

Dance Success - Senior Girls

Congratulations Our senior dance group who recently competed in the Active Schools Dance competition: Eve Hinshelwood, Holly Houston, Amy Fleming, Ava Duncan, Sarah Mooney, Milly Bell and Ellie Mooney. Our senior pupils have shown excellent commitment and made sure to rehearse even during their prelims. A massive congratulations should be given to Eve who choreographed the entire routine by herself. The power they demonstrated in their performance was so impressive, the girls have competed for the last five years in this competition and never fail to impress.

 

 

Football Success - Matthew Henderson

Congratulations to S4 pupil Matthew Henderson. Matthew is a member of the Rangers U17 squad who have just become the first British side to win the prestigious Al Kass International Cup in Qatar following a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Roma in the Final. In a field that also included the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, Rangers emerged victorious in what is a stunning success for the club's academy. Although Matthew sustaining an injury, he played very well during the early part of the tournament. Well done!!

 

Cross Country Success

Congratulation to all our pupils who competed in the South Lanarkshire Schools Cross Country Championships. All pupils showed great resilience to the weather, muddy run and pressure of the competition.

Furthermore, we had Dean Hill win his S1 race and Thomas Watson S5 come 2nd in the senior boys race with Sophie Evans finishing 4th.

Trampolining Success - Rachel Bell

Congratulations to S2 pupil Rachel Bell. Rachel was a finalist in the 2018 Scottish National Trampolining Championships in Perth.

Rachel is a member of the Sparta Trampolining Club and trains twice a week in Bellahouston.

Rachel would like to progress up through the trampolining levels and compete in competitions.

S2 Dancing Girls

Well done to S2 dancers Aimee Curivan, Ava Meikle, Emily Stevenson, Kiera Muncie and Daisy Jamieson. The commitment shown from this group has been extraordinary, they have sacrificed every lunch time and at least one evening per week since September to work on their routine which they choreographed themselves. The girls hoped their routine would raise awareness for those who have suffered from cancer, they decided to do a sponsored run around Strathclyde park to raise money for Macmillan Cancer. The girls decided to do this on their own, organised everything themselves and have raised over £400! WOW!!!!

 

Dance Success - S2 Girls

Congratulations to our S2 dancers who won the Active Schools Dance competition. Aimee Curivan, Ava Meikle, Emily Stevenson, Kiera Muncie and Daisy Jamieson choreographed their own routine. The girls hoped their routine would raise cancer awareness. It was a memorising, emotional and winning performance. Well done!!

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Swimming Success - Joshua Wallace

Congratulations to S2 pupil Joshua Wallace. He was awarded the following:

•Moira Smith Swimming Achievement Trophy •Most time trials won by a boy •Swimmer of the month medal •Silver medal in a disability sport - swimming •Toll Cross Disability Swim - bronze and silver medal. •Trophy for 3rd place out of all boys aged 13/14 (all swimming stokes) •Special Achievement Trophy

Golf Success - Fraser Merriweather

Congratulations to Fraser Merriweather 6A. Fraser won the individual boys Scratch title at the 2018 South Lanarkshire Schools’ Golf Championships. Fraser has had an outstanding 6 years at Larkhall Academy in terms of schools golf winning a number of titles and representing our school for the first time at the Scottish Championships last June. Well done!

 

 Football Success - Jess Farquhar

Congratulations to S3 Pupil Jess Farquhar. Jess enjoys playing football and is a member of the Army Cadets and school football. Jess recently won a silver medal at a Cadets football competition in Edinburgh. Jess aspires to continue playing football in teams and would love to have more young people interested in the Army and join in!
